The part nobody sees is the part that holds.
Mechanics is a floral installation studio. We build the armature first and plant into it, so an object can carry a couple of thousand stems for three days with no block of foam anywhere in it.

What we take on
Three sizes of job, and we will say which one you have.
Everything is quoted from a site visit. If the thing you want dressed cannot take the weight, or cannot be watered, we say so before you have paid for anything.
Fronts
Shopfronts, arches, a staircase for one evening. Built in sections in the studio, carried in, and struck the morning after.

Rooms
A ceiling, a whole wall, a table for sixty. The only jobs where we will bring more than four people and a van.

The mechanics
Foam is the easy way and we stopped using it.
Floral foam is a single-use plastic that breaks into pieces small enough to end up in the water. It is also the fastest way to hold a stem. Everything below is what replaced it.

A steel skeleton
Welded to the shape of the object, padded where it meets it, and never fixed to the object itself.

Chicken wire and moss
Crumpled wire packed with damp moss gives a stem something to bite into and holds water against it.
- 03
Tubes for the long stems
Glass tubes, refilled twice a day. Anything that will not last the run in a tube does not go in.
- 04
Conditioning, two nights
Everything is cut, stripped and left in deep water for forty-eight hours before it is allowed near the build.
