How an order goes

From your list to the post.

Most jobs are envelopes. The rest is place cards, table plans and the odd menu, all written the same way.

    Send the list

    A spreadsheet with one guest to a row, exactly as you want it written. We do not correct anybody's name or title, so send it the way it should read.

  2. 02

    Choose the hand and the ink

    Three hands and eleven inks. You get a sample of your own name in each before anything is committed to a hundred envelopes.

  3. 03

    Written in one sitting

    A hundred envelopes take two days and they are written straight through, so the hand does not change halfway down your guest list.

  4. 04

    Checked, then posted

    Every envelope is read back against the list by somebody who did not write it. Spares go in the box, unwritten, because somebody is always missing.

Before you send the list

What people ask.

What if a name is spelled wrong?

If it is wrong on your list it will be wrong on the envelope, because we write exactly what is in front of us. If it is our mistake we rewrite it and post it the same day at our cost.

Can you match my invitation?

Send one. We match the ink and the hand to what is printed on it, which usually means writing narrower than we would choose. It is your stationery, not our portfolio.

Do you supply the envelopes?

We can, in five papers, or you send yours. If you send them, send ten per cent more than you need. Nobody has ever regretted the spares.

Will it go through the post safely?

Yes. The ink is waterproof once dry and every envelope is left flat for four hours before it is boxed. Gouache and metallic inks take a day.

How far ahead should I book?

Ten days is enough between March and May. From June to September the diary runs six weeks out, and the week before a bank holiday is always full.

Do you do anything other than weddings?

Yes. Christenings, memorials, private dinners, and shop windows written in the same hands with a different brush. The pricing is the same per line.
